1. It is saying that Totoro is in fact messenger of Death, and whoever sees him will soon die. The hospital that the sister’s mother was in was based on a real hospital for terminally-ill patients.

2. Later in the story the villagers find a slipper in a pond, which is in fact May’s, at this point she has already drowned in the pond. Satsuki lied that the slipper wasn’t Mei’s out of denial. Ever since this scene, the sisters appeared to have no shadow.

3. Satsuki pleaded the Totoro and the cat-bus to take her to where Mei is, while on the cat-bus, says “Nobody can see us…”, this scene is Satsuki leading herself to the land of the dead (by taking the cat-bus).

4. At the hospital, the mother says “I think I feel May and Satsuki smiling there in that tree…” Why don’t the sisters go and see their mom if they are already there? Why do they just leave the corn there instead? It is said that the sisters were dead at that point, and the Japanese pronunciation of “corn” is similar to “kill child”.

5. The final scenes seem to be a happy epilogue, but they in fact happened “before” the major events in the movie.

6. The movie was set in a place in Japan where there was a case of murdering of two sisters which happened in the 60s. This event took place on May 1st, while the sister’s names are Satsuki (May in Japanese) and Mei (May in English). In the real life case, the younger sister was missing first and the older sister was seen to be looking for her frantically. Next day, the younger sister’s body was found in the forest (stabbed to death). The older sister was in such a state of shock and kept rambling ambiguous words about seeing a “cat monster”, “great big racoon monster” etc to the police. The sisters were in fact from a single-parent family (mother died of illness).

 I took this picture cause I knew this story was tumblr worthy.

So I had been sitting in my big white van behind the lowell building, not going to class, and staring happily at a brick wall.

out of the corner of my eye, i notice a man coming up the alley, slow down a little past the car, but ultimately keep going.

the term ‘weirdo’ passed my mind, and I locked the doors even though any actual threat was minimal, and soon I was staring at the wall again.

Not less than 5 minutes later I heard a knocking at the passenger side window. I look over, and it’s the same weirdo who walked by the car before; Except now he looked particularly nervous and had his nose pressed against the glass.

I should mention that I never felt particularly frightened of this man. he was quite skinny, and seemed extremely skittish and fearful both when I saw him starting up the alley, and now, as he knocked.

Anyway, I rolled down the window slightly and asked “can I help you?” with one eyebrow raised and a general look of confusion.

he gestured at me with his chin, and said with an equally confused tone “you…eh…you…sex?”

We had a moment of silence.

Eyebrow still raised, and before I knew what was coming out of my mouth, I raised both my hands, shook my head and said “I’m wearing mittens”.

He immediately started shaking his head up and down as if he understood, and practically started sprinting away.

I lowered my hands after a minute and I….

I can’t tell which is funnier: The fact that this strange man thought I was some sort of portable hooker, parking my van behind churches and waiting for patrons, or that my proof against being a hooker was the fact that I was wearing mittens.

Animation Fun Fact! - Candlehead from Disney’s Wreck-it Ralph will be getting a redesign for the films March 2013 release in Japan. Which is funny seeing as her namesake has been removed. As I’ve stated in a previous post  Wreck-it Ralph will be retitled Sugar Rush in Japan.

that’s minty zaki’s car with her tho. did they merge them? i remember seeing a theory that candlehead WAS minty early on but it was changed and this would further cement that lol

i wonder why they opted to change her design for japan tho. that’s a bunch of scenes to redo (especially since that includes replacing her CAR too)
